What is BPC-157?
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a protein found in human gastric juice. It consists of 15 amino acids and has been the subject of extensive animal research since the early 1990s, primarily by Croatian researcher Dr. Predrag Sikiric and his team at the University of Zagreb.
What makes BPC-157 interesting to researchers is its apparent systemic healing properties — studies suggest it may accelerate healing across multiple tissue types including tendons, ligaments, muscles, bone, and the gastrointestinal tract, through what appears to be upregulation of growth hormone receptor expression and promotion of angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation).
Why researchers use it: BPC-157 has one of the most robust animal research profiles of any peptide in this space. Over 100 published studies, most showing significant healing acceleration across diverse injury models.
What the Research Shows
The bulk of BPC-157 research has been conducted in rodent models. Key findings include:
- Tendon healing: Multiple studies show accelerated tendon-to-bone healing in transected Achilles tendon models, with BPC-157 treated animals showing significantly faster functional recovery
- Muscle healing: Crushed muscle studies demonstrate faster fiber regeneration and reduced fibrosis compared to controls
- Bone healing: Research in segmental bone defect models suggests BPC-157 promotes osteoblast activity and bone bridge formation
- GI tract: Extensive research on inflammatory bowel disease models shows mucosal healing and anti-inflammatory effects — not surprising given its gastric origin
- Neurological: Some research suggests neuroprotective effects and potential for traumatic brain injury models
It's worth noting that virtually all research is in animal models. No completed human clinical trials exist as of 2026. That's the gap between the enthusiasm in research communities and the formal scientific record.
Dosing Protocols
Based on extrapolation from animal research (most commonly using the Angibeau scaling method), the frequently discussed research dosing ranges are:
- 5mg vials: Reconstitute with 1ml bacteriostatic water → 5mcg per 0.01ml
- 10mg vials: Reconstitute with 2ml bacteriostatic water → 5mcg per 0.01ml
- Common research protocols: 250-500mcg once or twice daily, administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly at or near the injury site
- Duration: Most protocols run 4-8 weeks for acute injuries, longer for chronic conditions
Reconstitution tip: Always inject the bacteriostatic water slowly down the side of the vial — never directly onto the peptide powder. Swirl gently, don't shake. See our full reconstitution guide.
Stacking with TB-500
BPC-157 and TB-500 are almost always discussed together — and for good reason. They appear to work through complementary mechanisms. BPC-157 primarily works locally at the injury site through receptor upregulation and angiogenesis, while TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4) works more systemically by promoting cell migration and actin regulation.
The combination is sometimes called the "healing stack" in research communities and is the most popular dual-peptide protocol. UNYX Peptides offers a pre-blended BPC-157 + TB-500 vial which simplifies reconstitution when running both simultaneously.
See our full BPC-157 + TB-500 stacking guide for complete protocol details.
Reconstitution Guide
BPC-157 comes as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. It requires reconstitution with bacteriostatic water before use in research.
- Clean the rubber stopper of both vials with an alcohol swab
- Draw the appropriate volume of bacteriostatic water into a syringe
- Inject the water slowly down the side of the peptide vial — not directly onto the powder
- Swirl gently until fully dissolved — do not shake vigorously
- Store reconstituted peptide refrigerated (2-8°C) and use within 4 weeks
Where to Buy BPC-157
After testing multiple vendors, our current top recommendation for BPC-157 is UNYX Peptides. They carry both 5mg and 10mg vials, ship from a US GMP facility, and have shown consistent quality across multiple test orders. They also stock bacteriostatic water, which most vendors don't.
- BPC-157 5mg and 10mg available
- BPC-157 + TB-500 blend also available
- US GMP facility, same-day shipping
- Bacteriostatic water in stock
